“America After America” is an interesting collection of thoughts, impressions and ideas about the American way of life. The author has used his personal travel experiences to contrast the American lifestyle with life in Europe. Chrstache Gheorghiu’s careful observation of people going about their day-to-day activities, and his free-thought associations and reactions, provided the foundation for an entertaining and insightful comparative study. By combining charming descriptions of the American landscape with the social interaction of people in airports, bus stations, and in the many villages and towns he visited, the author found excellent material for his book, and discovered a country that is filled with contradiction and surprise. Travel and People are always great ingredients for storytelling; in this work Gheorghiu has blended them with skill and a sound understanding of the human condition.
